Are you ready to master your basketball game? In order to be the best, you need to train like the best. I encourage my athletes to remember that a skillset is earned and must be maintained. No matter how great you get, going back to the basics is what allows you to stay great.

1: Dribble

Grab your basketball and practice dribbling like a pro. Remember, the ball is your best friend on the court! You want to make sure you strong control over the basketball. Practice dribbling at all angles and under all conditions.

2: Shoot, Shoot, and Shoot Some More

Repitition is your best friend. Select a location on the court and practice until you have muscle memory to shoot in that location. Focus on your hand placement, your stance and perfecting every possible condition in that part of the court.

3: Defense Wins Championships

Your footwork drives your defense. It is also your best friend to prevent injury. Ensure your basketball coach is monitoring and perfecting that portion of your game.

4: Fast Breaks for Days

Practice fast breaks to improve your speed and agility on the court. It's important to build up muscle in your legs, but maintain the integrity of your ligaments for injury prevention. Staying agile is just as important. In basketball, cardio and outlasting the other team creates a heavy edge for yourself as an athlete

5: Rebound Ready

Grab a teammate or a friend and practice rebounding drills. Every possession is an opportunity, so it's important to remember different plays. As a coach, I create different environments to get my players ready for different rebound opportunities in a game.

6: Fancy Footwork Fundamentals

Work on your footwork with ladder drills and cone drills. I typically do this a few times a week with my players, keeping them agile. Bringing them back to the basics, even as a varsity high school basketball player, is vital for the progression of your athletic journey.

7: Passing Perfection

Practice different types of passes - chest pass, bounce pass, overhead pass. Precision is key! As you grow with a team, you will gain chemistry and trust. However, the best players are the ones who can adjust to whoever they share a court with.

8: Free Throw Frenzy

Hit the free-throw line and practice your shots. Free throws are the one shot in basketball that is consistent, singular and always the same. Perfecting your free throw makes you a vital part of any team and showcases your discipline to practice something until it becomes second nature.

9: Post-Up Power

Practice post-up moves and hooks shots to dominate on the line. At Woods Wellness Performance we work on making you feel confident bringing big moves to the game.

10: Full-Court Press Fun

Working on your conditioning is always important. At Woods Wellness Performance we work on the athlete as an individual. We teach you the importance of being a well rounded athlete, so you can reach your goals and exceed them for a long time to come.
